In respect of brass bands, it is notable that post war the development of percussion instrumentation and the inclusion by composers of a wider spectrum of percussion colour in brass band arrangements, has meant that percussion has been a growing feature of brass band performance. Today it is not uncommon for a band to own a full drum kit and at least 2 or 3 timpani. Add to that Tam-Tam, cymbals, bass drum, glockenspiel, xylophone and tubular bells and you are close to orchestral standards. The standard box of tricks including duck calls, bird whistles, hooters, rattles and anything else that makes noise - sorry, musical statement, is part of the collection of equipment. Contesting music such as Derek Borgois's "The Devil and the deep blue sea", which was the regional test piece in 2012 requires 4 percussionists. BCB are fortunate to have access a great team of versatile percussionists for such occasions some of whose profiles are here for you to read.
