History of Bournemouth Concert Brass

Boscombe Temperance Band (Circa 1920)

Bournemouth Concert Brass (BCB) are a Championship section brass band with a local history going back 100 years. After various titles involving "Boscombe Silver" and "Boscombe Temperance" the band settled into it's current brand in 1975.

This timeline offers some recognition of the bands origins and development over the last 100 years. We have included the bands competition pedigree in the latter years.

**The band are looking to recuit a number of key players in the cornet, horn and percussion sections in the coming months following the loss of some players through work moves out of the area. If you are interested in joining us then contact our Chairman or Secretary.

Bournemouth Concert Brass History / Competition Results

1912 Boscombe Temperance Band is formed by a father and son duo with the surname Bareham. Charlie Tiller was the first conductor of the band who also played in the then Boscombe Hippodrome Orchestra.Charlie Tiller also was renowned as a fine maker of violins
1920s Name change to Boscombe Silver Band. *A 1954 newspaper report stated that prior to the first world war, the Boscombe Temperance Band competed at the Crystal Palace band contest winning the "Silver Baton". The band changed it's name to Boscombe Silver Band
1925 Southbourne Silver Band is formed
1945 Southbourne Silver Band  name change to Bournemouth YMCA Band
1949 Bournemouth YMCA Band name change to Winton British Legion Band
1956 Boscombe Silver Band demise and amalgamation with Bournemouth Silver Band
1959 Winton British Legion Band demise and amalgamation with Bournemouth Silver Band
1975 Name change to Bournemouth Concert Brass
1988 Name change to Bournemouth Concert Brass(Royal Artillery Band)
1990 Name change back to Bournemouth Concert Brass
