Soprano
Matt Chiverton - Soprano
Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, brass band country as it’s known to the locals, Matt’s early musical years were spent in the Salvation Army. He began to learn the cornet aged 6 and persevered with it until the age of 17 when the then Bandmaster suggested he might suit the soprano. He relocated to Bournemouth in 2000.
After a two year spell away from banding, Matt was invited to play cornet for Hyde band just for one contest. Encouraged to get playing again he joined Downton Band on tutti cornet before becoming the bands principal cornet player. In 2006 Matt moved back to soprano. In 2008 he joined Michelmersh. A personal highlight for Matt was winning the “Best Cornet Player” award, on soprano, at the 2012 Gloucester BBA contest whilst playing for Hyde Band as a borrowed player!
Matt is a self employed painter & decorator and away from banding is a keen sportsman and is goalkeeper for a local football team, as well as been a fairly useful golfer. Matt keeps in touch with his upbringing and still passionately follows his beloved Leeds United FC.
